Description

Samuel Hartsel (1834-1918) was one of the first cattlemen in Colorado and the namesake founder of the community of Hartsel in Park County. Born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Hartsel became involved in the cattle business at fifteen years old. Hemoved his ranching business to Park County, Colorado, in order to invest in placer mining. Hartsel's cattle operation was at one time one of the most successful ranches in the state of Colorado.
