Description
First page of a family newsletter by Kenneth Williams (?-1913) and Barbara "Bobbie" (Thayer) Williams (1931-2020). Married in 1956, the Williams were missionaries in Guatemala with their three daughters Gaylyn Williams, Joy Williams (Coker), and Joni Williams (Shepherd/Brandon). Images on 1st page are of the Williams' move to Guatemala. Descriptions of images with corresponding captions top-to-bottom, left-to-right:
- Page heading and description: "Our 50th Anniversary of Going to Guatemala - December 1958-2008. Fifty years ago this month we arrived in Guatemala to provide God's Word for the Chuj people. We lived 11 1/2 years in a very isolated village called San Sebastian Coatan (SSC). In the beginning, we drove up to 12 difficult hours from Guatemala City to the end of road, then hiked 4 hours over steep mountain trails. Two years later we had a "road" into SSC & could get there in about 12 hours total".
- Narrow mountain road: "A typical stretch of our road (when weather was good)".
- Three chuj people with loads on their backs: "Hauling our 'worldly possessions' to SSC our first trip".
- Bobbie on horseback: "On the trail to San Sebastian".
- Landscape view with village: "First view of our new home town".
- Group of people around house: "Our 1st home - 2 rooms, shared with 5 Chuj people".
- Group of people standing in front of house: "The home we built after two years".
