Modernity and Ghost Towns
As the 20th century approached, the towns and communities of Park County were bustling with activity. However, over time economic circumstances dictated the decline of the mining town. The introduction of machine-driven technologies diminished excitement for individual prospectors. Fewer trains ran through towns, and businesses slowly began to close, and towns were left abandoned.
Skeletal remains of log buildings are all that remains of many Park County territories. The memory of Park County is now preserved through the efforts of the remaining community and volunteers in gathering and preserving photographs, maps, documents, and oral histories.
